We are only a minutes walk from the old pit village of Tairgwaith which has a thriving social club (the village pub really) with quizzes and music, Sky Sports etc – you will be made most welcome by the locals –
From there it’s only a couple of minutes by car (or 20 mins walk) to GCG (Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen) where there is a supermarket with cash point as well as a pub and convenience store along with takeaways and a cafe.
A little further is Brynaman which has the nearest petrol station, takeaways and a newly opened Steakhouse as well as its own 2 screens fully digital cinema that is open 7 days a week.
All the local takeaways deliver to the site gates – all menus and local leaflets of interest are available to check out on-site in our washroom area.
Walks from the site.
There are numerous beautiful walks straight from our gates here that are so easy to plan be it a slow relaxing stroll or a longer planned round walk upon the hilltops – in just 40 minutes you can be up near the wind turbines at the back of the site with a stunning 360′ view out towards the coast one way and on to the Brecons the other.
The soon to be completed new nature reserve on the site of the old open cast mine with its large clear blue lake is the real jewel in the crown with local access from just down the lane –
This is a 3 mile round walk highly recommended as a weekend stroll.
We are sited in the middle of common land so expect to share your strolls with horses and ponies sheep cows and others – we even have a visiting fox that strolls thro the site in the summer months sometimes with her cubs!!
The range of bird songs here that you will hear tells you that we are also blessed with many varieties of birds including Kites, hawks and owls as well as the more normal suspects, all adding to what we hope will be a quiet enjoyable stay here.
